Malachi 4-"5 "See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction."

  • The 400 Years Between the Old and New Testaments - 02-20-07, 12:22 PM , talkjesus.com

  • "Now, what happened in these four hundred so-called "silent" years after the last of the inspired prophets spoke and the first of the New Testament writers began to write? You remember there is a word infully come, God sent forth his Son, bom of woman, bom under the law." (Gal. 4:4) In other words, the time of our Lord's birth was God's appointed hour, the moment for which God had been long preparing. Some of the exciting preparations took place during that time of "silence," however, and you will understand your New Testament much better if you understand something of the historic events during the time between the Testaments.
After Malachi had ceased his prophesying and the canon of the Old Testament closed— that is, the number of the books in the Old Testament was fulfilled and the inspired prophets ceased to speak—God allowed a period of time for the teachings of the Old Testament to penetrate throughout the world. During this time, he rearranged the scenes of history, much as a stage crew will re-arrange the stage sets after the curtain has fallen, and when the curtain rises again there is an entirely new setting.
In about 435 B.C., when the prophet Malachi ceased his writing, the center of world power began to shift from the East to the West. Up to this time, Babylon had been the major world power, but this was soon succeeded by the Medio-Persian empire, as you remember from ancient history. This shift had been predicted by the prophet Daniel, who said that there would rise up a bear who was higher on one side than the other, signifying the division between Media and Persia, with the Persians the predominant ones (Dan. 7:5).
At the height of the Persian power there arose in the country of Macedonia (which we now know as Greece) north of the Black Sea. a man by the name of Philip of Macedon, who became a leader in his own country. He united the islands of Greece and became their ruler. His son was destined to become one of the great world leaders of all time, Alexander the Great. In 330 B.C. a tremendous battle between the Persians and the Greeks entirely altered the course of history. In that battle, Alexander, as a young man only twenty years old, led the armies of Greece in victory over the Persians and completely demolished the power of Persia. The center of world power then shifted father west into Greece, and the Grecian empire was born....

    Day #2-

    10:30am-Morning Small Group Session

We divided the 50+ men into 7 groups of 7+ and spread out into different areas of the building. The group I was in each shared about their individual story relating to the topic being shared this weekend. I ended up sharing my personal earthly father"-son relationship. I told them I grew more grateful as I got older as I meet others who had a "tougher" or "no" son-father relationship. When I heard stories of friends who are adopted and never met their biological father, I got more thankful. The problem I had growing-up was comparing my relationship with my peers. For example, when I played sports in high school. I got a little jealous or envied my peers who had their parents show up to their sports games. I remembered only one time when my mom was able to come to one of my games (soccer), but unfortunately I was benched. However, I was just happy to see my mom come to my game. I understood my dad couldn't come because of his jobs he had to help "financially" support our family. I became more understanding when I learned more of my grandfather who died in WWII (see Filipino Military History), so my dad didn't have his dad around most of his life. This is similar to many other parents we have in America that was indirectly affected by our war past.

    Day #2 Saturday, December 5th of 2009

Before breakfast, I took advantage of the quiet beautiful morning sunrise surroundings with my Creator, which I was aww of the scenery. I happened to have my digital camera, so I took pics to share it with others to "inspire" them to visit this beautiful camp.

During our small groups, we listened to each others' stories on the current stage they are in and then we prayed for another. We learned that we need to encourage each other (especially the ones in the "higher" stage to "help" those "lower" than them-e.g. Stage 5 and/or 6 needs to help the ones in Stage 4) with the different stages we are in.

    Film: Amazing Journey

"An Amazing Journey is a short film, 17 minutes, that can be used as part of a message, in a Sunday school or youth group, and as a small group discussion starter. Design Description

A powerful and moving story of one man's encounter with God and His Word. It's a real life 'amazing' testimony of God's unconditional love and His desire to restore our hearts and lives through an intimate relationship with Him. Based on the scripture found in John 10:27, "My sheep hear My Voice; I know them, and they follow Me "

  • The Story of 'Hard Luck' Hanna, israelhanna.org

  • ".. On Sunday, May 6 1990, as I was turning off Highway 2 onto the driveway of our home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, our station-wagon was struck broadside and 60mph by a passing semi-truck. My wife was knocked unconscious and I was flown to St. Mary's Intensive Care Unit in Duluth, Minnesota with serious injuries. It was three days later that I learned of my daughter Jessica's death as a result of massive head injuries suffered during the crash. My son, who was not in the car accident at the time, and my wife postponed the funeral a day so that it would not take place on his thirteenth birthday. On May 12, 1990, they buried my daughter Jessica Robin Hanna, without me...
Almost a year and a half later, Labor Day weekend 1991, I was asked to substitute for a Deer River pastor. Though I agreed, I was reluctant and fearful. I still suffered from my injuries and the loss of my Bible, which had been so much a part of my ministry.
I prayed that God would grant me the strength and that, if possible, return my Bible.
The following evening around 10pm some rifle shots were fired near our home, and because there had been problems in the past with poaching in our area, I decided to call the game warden.
To reach the game warden at that late hour, I had to call Highway Patrol Headquarters in Virginia, Minnesota, and talk to the dispatcher. When I finished my complaint, the dispatcher's response was unusual. "You are kidding me! Would you identify yourself one more time?"
The dispatcher told me that all the area cars were brought into Virginia headquarters for a final cleaning before being removed from service. "We found a bible with the name Jim Hanna on it under one of the car seats. Could this bible possibly be yours?"
In utter amazement I said, "Yes."...
Since that time my life has changed almost as completely as before my conversion. Those changes include: A trip 2350 miles down the Mississippi River proclaiming God's coming judgment on America (leaving on September 11, 1999 at 9:00 AM); being suddenly and unexpectedly separated from my wife and later divorced; traveling as a missionary to the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, and Australia where I met a young lady named Elizabeth whom I married on the Feast of Passover, 2003 in Jerusalem, Israel. I now find myself currently pastoring a growing non-denominational fellowship in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The Lord has given my wife and I a serious burden for the land of Israel and after spending 6 months there on our honeymoon we are even more convinced that we are drawing closer every day to the soon return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The following day after service (Sunday, December 6th of 2009) at my local church, the pastor's wife shared about who is God? I then thought of the many "Names of God": Savior, Redeemer, Counselor, etc... He is each of these in the different "stages" (e.g. see above) we are in our walk with Him. We just got to believe (have faith) that He is! During the "break time" on Friday evening, I met a guy (Sammuel from Sudan) that was part of the church in Fargo. While we were chatting we encouraged one another that when we pray, we need to believe that it'll be answered (according to His will). I remember years ago, that a brother in the Lord told me that when we pray-try to vision that its is actually happening. For example, when this brother and I were doing a prayer walk back in a neighborhood in my hometown (St. Paul)-we prayed that God will pour his Holy Spirit in each house we passed by. He then told me to "picture" a Holy Spirit "fire" coming from the "Heavens" to the house! We need to pray like this every time (e.g. seeing a cancer victim being healed by Him "Counselor" when we "lay" hands on them)!!

Q: What stage are you at?...

    1. Storms (Physical & Spiritual) in Life
*see GoodnewsEverybody: Prayer-Intercessory on Spiritual Warfare!

*Note: During this sermon, I was reminded of this saying, "God is bigger than your circumstances!" Below are add'l notes from Chris G. (first time at this annual event, who is from Glenwood, MN-met him at a small "UMM Aluni Reunion" get-together through a UMM Alumn friend (Erin A.) at Pizza Ranch (1st)=>Common Cup. Ironcially, got "saved" during an evangelistic outreach (see Luis Palau 04' in St. Paul) I was praying at while enjoying the music!
    1. Storms
-Jesus spent three days ministering to people.
    -He performed miracles.
-The people were ready to make Him King.
-Jesus recognized Satanic attacks, we need to do the same.
    -What we say is important.
-Jesus forced the disciples into the boat.
-The disciples were obedient... then a storm came.
-Often times storms come right after we have done an act of obedience to God.
-"Because we are in a storm, does not mean we are out of God's will."
-Anecdote- Reverend Bernard, an evangelist, went to Africa.
-Witch doctors came to disrupt his work.
    - A storm arose, it was violent, and lightning was present.
-Reverend Bernard commanded the storm to part in Jesus' name.
-The storm came but it parted as it had come.
-God is not at war with satan, but man is at war with satan.
-We have greater authority than satan if we have Jesus with us.
-During life satan will try to destroy.
    -We need to be victorious.

"David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, 15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
16 As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart. ...
When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"
21 David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD's people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. AMAZING REVIVAL IN BARVAS

"In 1949 one of the most outstanding revivals of the 20th century broke out in the tiny village of Barvas in the Outer Hebrides on the Island of Lewis off the North West coast of Scotland. See film of the village and read the amazing story. God can do it again where we live. Look at Samaria in Acts 8 where the whole town believed or Nineveh and Jonah. Let us pray and seek the Lord. Are we hungry and thirsty for the Lord? Are we concerned about the lost? Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen and repent and do all the deeds you did at first. Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground:"
REVIVAL IN THE HEBRIDES ISLANDS, SCOTLAND By Duncan Campbell
The Intercessors of the Hebrides Revival of 1949, from Holy Trinity New Rochelle.org
"..Between 1949 and 1952 a wide spread revival swept through these islands in answer to the prayers of God's people. Instrumental in this revival was the evangelist Duncan Campbell. He came to the Isle of Lewis to conduct a two week evangelistic campaign and ended up staying two years. The following accounts are testimonies of the power of intercessory prayer during this mighty move of God. ..
Peggy & Christine Smith: They Prayed A Promise In a small cottage by the roadside in the village of Barvas lived two elderly women, Peggy and Christine Smith. They were eighty-four and eighty-two years old. Peggy was blind and her sister almost bent double with arthritis. Unable to attend public worship, their humble cottage became a sanctuary where they met with God...
Many who were present witnessed that at that moment the house shook. Dishes rattled in the sideboard, as wave after wave of Divine power swept through the building. A minister standing beside Duncan turned and said: "Mr. Campbell, an earth tremor!" But Duncan's mind, however, was in the fourth chapter of Acts, where the early Christians were gathered in prayer and, we read: "When they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost."...
The price for heaven sent revival has never changed. Before the floods of Holy Ghost conviction could sweep across the Isles of The Hebrides, strong men were broken before God, travailing in agony of prayer through the long hours of the night for months. To do this, in spite of the demands of home and work, these men had to make time for waiting before God! This is perhaps the greatest problem besetting us today. We have all the modern luxuries of life to make work easier and yet we cannot make time to pray! "

The "Four Great Speeches" above have a common theme, which is inspiring "people to get involved". We the people need to be the answer to social crisis or problems in our society. We spend too much time watching other people's destiny and it's time to live our own individual destiny. God has gifted each of us uniquely and has a purpose for each of us.

Question to meditate on: What's God's Destiny for you?
What ways has the devil thwarted you in walking in God's fullness?

This was probably one of the most individual self-booster time of the weekend because of the groups encouraging (e.g. prophetic) word to one another. During the group ministry to each individuals, I was actually caught off guard about how many of us men were very discouraged. Some of us where going through some challenges in life. I never knew that ome of the men I've known for a long time were going through some of the challenges they shared. I felt that many or all of the men have been getting "lied" (see accusser) or "attacked" to prevent God using them fully to their potentional in advancing the Kingdom. I thought this time was very needed and we should try to encourage another daily as the Bible says. Thanks group (you know who each of you are)!
